
Washington, 3 abr (China) — Um dos dois policiais atropelados por um carro que invadiu as barricadas em torno do complexo do Capitólio dos EUA na tarde desta sexta-feira foi declarado morto, disse a chefe interina da Polícia do Capitólio, Yogananda Pittman.
Pittman relatou em uma coletiva de imprensa que o motorista saiu do veículo com uma faca, começou a esfaquear os policiais do Capitólio que o balearam posteriormente. O agressor foi declarado morto a caminho do hospital.
A causa exata da morte do policial ainda não foi esclarecida.
Robert Contee, chefe interino do Departamento de Polícia Metropolitana, declarou que o incidente “não parece ter relação com o terrorismo”.
“Não parece haver relação com o terrorismo”. Mas obviamente continuaremos investigando para ver se existe algum tipo de nexo nesse sentido”, disse Contee na coletiva de imprensa.
O Capitólio dos EUA foi fechado devido à “ameaça de segurança exterior” após o incidente, que ocorreu por volta das 13h30 (horário local).
